Archbold Biological Station, Venus, Florida
Designed a game for 87 campers to teach concepts of morphology, ecological niches and interspecific competition. Campers listened to a presentation about different foot and bill types found in birds, and designed their own species by combining one of each feature. The "fitness" of each species was tested during a game in which I read scenarios that might occur in the scrub (e.g., land managers remove snags after a fire). Campers moved forward or backward on a board according to whether their bird was impacted positively or negatively. At the conclusion of the game I lead a discussion about how morphology reflects a bird's niche, and how anthropogenic and stochastic events can impact birds in positive or negative ways.

Cookeville's Annual Nature Fest
Cookeville, Tennessee 'Touch A Snake' volunteer.
Exposed hundreds of visitors, many of them children, to a wide variety of herpetofauna including: snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, and salamanders.
Exhibited enthusiasm and approachability as a source of information, and taught facts, ID skills, and proper handling techniques.
Modeled calm behavior around animals in order to successfully engage timid or fearful attendees.

Participated in a prescribed burn of 300 acres of grassland habitat.
Operated ATVs equipped with water tanks to monitor fires.
Set head fires and back fires using a drip torch.
Burgess Falls State Park & The Nature Conservancy

Treated over 25 hemlock trees at Burgess Falls State Park by way of sub-soil insecticide tablets to prevent infestation by the hemlock woolly adelgid.
Recorded diameter at breast height (DBH) using a Biltmore stick.

Attended an invasive exotic plant workshop.
Removed patches of beefsteak plant (Perilla frutescens), a non-native and invasive plant species.
